Roger Frank Holt, beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather passed away at the age of 75 on December 27, 2019, at his home. Roger was born on January 7, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to Essie Kimball and Alfred A. Holt. Roger was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served in the Navy. He was fiercely patriotic and was honored to have served his country.
Roger was one of the kindest people you could ever meet and always treated people with dignity and respect, as is evidenced by his career working for the Veteran’s Administration as a caregiver to those experiencing physical hardships. Roger loved jazz and could often be found at music festivals. He also loved classic cars, good food and great friendships. He was loved by many and will remain in the hearts and minds of those close to him. Roger loved to talk about his life, his service in the Navy, and his beloved children and grandchildren.
Roger is survived by his two children, Natasha (“Tasha”) Essie Holt and Roger Anthony (“Tony”) Holt. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren- Tony’s twins, Roger Tyrese and Malaya Marie (10) Holt and Tasha’s five children, Noah Brennan Chaney (10), Elijah Daniel Chaney (9), Mykay Rachel Chaney (7), Neryah Brynn (5), and Akiah Mathew (2). Roger considered his children and grandchildren to be his greatest blessing and treasure in life.
Roger is preceded in death by his loving parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as Tony and Tasha’s mother, Rachel Strang.
Tony and Tasha are planning Roger’s celebration of life, which will likely take place in the upcoming months. Many thanks to the Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home & Cremation Center for their assistance at this difficult time.
